You can also start by hiring a realtor. You can ask friends and family for referrals, you can use agents referred on Redfin and Zillow. There is also a new option becoming available that allows buyers to submit offers WITHOUT a real estate agent. This option can actually help you negotiate a better deal. Since the seller pays both agent's commissions, the seller might be more enticed to take your offer if you are not using an agent and can save them some money on commission payments.
